PHILLY BIKE PARTY RETURNS *we acknowledge our hiatus & we apologize

Image

okay, so its been over a year. okay, we built a strong following just to back away slowly due to life stuffs. okay…okayokay we get it. and we are sorry. WE FEEL SO BAD THAT THIS GHOSTLY MONTH, Philly Bike Party is making its return to the cycling community with the promise to be better than ever. no more sound issues or woes. just the promise of a rad time and killer tunes.

let me take a moment of your precious time and remind you once again why Philly Bike Party was created. PBP rose up from the minds of two avid cyclist who wished for an event in the cycling community where commuters, racers, couriers, bicycle shop workers and the like could congregate and relate to one another about their shared interest in bicycles. no pretentious attitudes or judgmental looks…just the chance to travel around the city on two wheels and indulge in dancing and similar smile inducing behavior. Philly Bike Party facilities friendship and bonding through cycling. We invest our time and money so that good people like you can enjoy an activity we strongly and actively care about in our community.

thank you philadelphia for welcoming us back into your hearts and heads. we hope that if you can’t join us for bike party in your festive garb that you take away this tidbit. philadelphia has an immense bike culture that has yet to reach its potential in terms of community oriented activities. Philly Bike Party strives for nothing more than to be a haven for such activities and potential.

Welcome and/or Welcome Back!

Hi there!

Welcome to Philly Bike Party, the best time you’ll have this side of the rivers.

A clothed, musical spin-off of the Philly Naked Biked Ride, we meet at a spot, sync up our boomboxes, ride around Philly to the beats, and then stop at places to dance!

Our purpose: Have fun.

Our goals: Create community amongst Philly bike riders, promote an eco-friendly mode of transport, and show Philly commuters that bikers don’t suck – we want to follow the laws and make living as safe and enjoyable as possible for everyone.

Next Ride: TBA, but most likely in February

Planning Meeting: January 29, 2012.  Please let us know if you’d like to help out! We could really use it!

In the mean time: Check out the photos from the last ride, connect with other riders and ask questions on the facebook page, get inspired, and see the movement that started it all, San Jose Bike Party.

Good times! Photos! Announcements!

Hey there rad Philly Bike Partiers,

Last night was *incredible*! You were all so fun and so energetic, it made me wake up wishing we were doing it again tonight.

Though it may not seem like it, it was actually a fair amount of work to get this off the ground. Stephanie and Karenina worked every day for a solid month doing such as things as: biking around the city to hang up posters, talking to people, making chalk signs, and working with area bike shops to drum up support; learning how to create a website, then designing it and updating it in a way that would keep people informed without overwhelming them; reaching out to volunteers; designing the route; scoping out dancing spots; making a crisp and danceable playlist; picking up supplies; researching local laws.

If you think you would be up for helping out with any of the above tasks, please let us know! While we would love to make it happen again and it’s more likely to if we have others to share some of these tasks.

On a lighter note, someone partied hardy and left their sandals at the starting point. If you’d like to pick them up, please contact Karenina at karenina@phillynakedbikeride.org, and she’ll be happy to arrange a way to get them to you.

Also, Garth Herrick already posted a bunch of the photos that he took of the event on his flickr site. Check them out and please submit more on the facebook page if you have them.

Thanks again for an awesome time.

Love,

Philly Bike Party

shhh….you don’t need a bike to join the party….

A lot of our friends choose to ride public transport and walk instead of biking.  While we love the freedom our wheels afford us, we feel that as long as it is earth friendly and creates community, we’re down with it.

So here’s the thing: The route is totally doable if you’re walking and riding Septa. We’re even going to post special directions for all y’all non-Septa savy peeps.

Yeah, we love you that much. It’s true.

Also, this NOT A NUDE EVENT. Fyi.
